Millie Gleeson is an artist based between Southwest England and Berlin. She graduated in 2010 with a BA degree in Fashion and Design from Bristol UWE. Since then her focus has been painting large scale figurative works, dominated by a strong female form and perfused with a kaleidoscope of colours. Solo shows have included Time Will Tell at Plateau Gallery, Berlin (2016), It’s All 2 Much Gallery, Bristol (2013) and Sidcot Arts (2014). Since completing the artist residency at Takt in 2015 she continues to live and work in Berlin.
My paintings are staged around a powerful female character. Painting women allows me to unlock a part of myself, which I feel resides in them, becoming both a transformative and reflective process. They evolve from performance-based photoshoots, integrating costume and movement. Translating these with paint I explore my own visual language through the female figure and it’s expression.
